Working from photos and/or a combination of photos and sittings, Verna’s greatest joy comes from drawing or painting children.  Verna strives to capture the uniqueness in each face, to portray the mischief reflected in the twinkle in the eye or that shy little smile.  She likes to think of herself as a “Curator of Memories”, encouraging families to turn that candid shot into a work of art that will become a family heirloom.  Her commissioned portraits hang in many homes across the United States.

Using primarily graphite and watercolors, she has studied under such artists as Carol Orr, Patricia Carter Clark, Jan Kunz and Judy Morris.  She is a member of the Oregon Society of Artists, the Watercolor Society of Oregon and an Associate Member of the National Watercolor Society. Her work has been displayed in many local art shows and businesses.  Currently, her work can be seen at the Pacific City Gallery in Pacific City, Oregon.

Verna Faye has always enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation and has often tried to capture this beauty with a camera.  While on vacation in August 1996, she picked up a pencil and began to draw the children playing around her. Returning home, she signed up for a water color class and began her journey into the world of portraiture. One year later, Verna Faye quit her job as a medical transcriptionist, opened her own studio in Sherwood and entered the art world on a full time basis.
