About the Artist

Verna Faye has always enjoyed the beauty of God's Creation and has often tried to capture this beauty with a camera. While vacationing in August 1996, Verna picked up a pencil and began drawing a group of children playing around her.  Returning home, she signed up for a water color class and began her journey into the world of portraiture. One year later, Verna quit her job as a medical transcriptionist, opened her own studio in Sherwood, Oregon and entered the art world on a full time basis.

Working from photos or a combination of photos and sittings, Verna's greatest joy comes from drawing or painting children. Verna strives to capture the uniqueness in each face, to portray the mischief reflected in the twinkle in the eye or that shy little smile. She likes to think of herself as a " Creator of Memories", encouraging families to turn that candid shot into a work of art that will become a prized family heirloom. Her commissioned portraits hang in many homes across the United States.

Using primarily graphite and water colors, she has studied under such famous artists as Patricia Carter Clark, Jan Kunz, Carol Orr, Judy Morris and Chris Stubbs. She is a member of the Oregon Society of Artists, the Watercolor Society of Oregon as well as an associate member of the National Watercolor Society. Frame Central and Meridian Park Hospital have chosen Verna on more than one occasion to be their artist of the month. Currently her work can be seen at the Yamhill Gift and Gallery in Newberg Oregon.
